The 2020 Presidential Elections in Seychelles Are Forthcoming

Mon, 15 June 2020

Contrary to expectations, the Seychelles presidential elections will take place in the second half of 2020. The situation in Seychelles is changing for the better and the state of emergency has been lifted, which will not affect the upcoming political elections. The date of their pursuance has not been specified yet, but it is expected to be announced in August, and the elections will be held in October or November.

"Once elections are scheduled, we must work within three months to carry out the whole process. We know that there will definitely be elections next year, so this time we are proposing that the election budget be paid earlier so that we can make some preliminary preparations” - said the Chairman of the Electoral Commission Danny Lucas.

The United Seychelles party approved its candidate, incumbent President Danny Faure, last Saturday, while the main opposition bloc, Linyon Demokratik Seselwa, began the process of registering potential candidates before its convention in September.
