Sun, 06 March 2005

The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Seychelles in Bulgaria, Mr. Maxim Behar, took part this month in a meeting of all Seychelles consuls and ambassadors across the world. The forum - the first of its kind over the last decade - was also joined by Seychelles President James A. Michel and newly appointed Foreign Minister Patrick Pillay. Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, the outgoing Foreign Ministry's Principal Secretary and newly appointed Chairman of the Seychelles Tourism Authority, opened the three-day conference, which continued over March 4 - March 6. Speaking at the first working session, Mr. Radegonde said that, due to Seychelles having only two overseas diplomatic missions (based in New York and Paris), the job done by the honorary consuls is much closer to that of a head of a mission, than for most other countries' voluntary representatives, the Seychelles' Nation newspaper said. During his stay in the Seychelles Mr. Maxim Behar held talks with Rondolph Payet, Managing Director of the Seychelles Fishing Authority, the CEO of the Seychelles Investment Bureau (SIB) Joseph Nourrice, Albert Payet, the Chairman of the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Ronald Fock-Tave, Director General of the Department of Immigration.
